The power of depth of field

Pics from the Botings holiday to the farm

They had a wonderful, relaxing time with friends but as you can see from the second photo, it was bloody freezing in the early mornings!

Online Audio

I have finally learned how to put audio onto this site - and its so much easier than I thought. To celebrate the occasion, I thought I would post the speeches from Gran and Gramp's 50th wedding anniversary from 1991!! Enjoy.

Dedicated photography site

I am very proud to announce that G-Trove (this blog) now has a sister. She is over at g-trovephotos.com . I have been taking photos now for over 4 years and my portfolio is growing. The new site provides a nice interactive way to view some of my better photos. I am hoping to get some photographic commissions for paid and charity work as time goes on and the site should help. Its been a lot of work but I think you'll agree its been worth it. Thanks to Charles for finding the template. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Clone stamping

I've been trying it out in photoshop - its a pretty cool tool. Of course, it can be taken to excess as perhaps I have done here!

Before

After

South African evening

We had Greg, Ellen, Charles, Pascal, Kerry and Cora over for dinner last night. Greg and Ellen are off to South Africa on honeymoon in a few months so that was the theme of the evening with boerwors, Babootie and peppermint crisp dessert on offer. Cora (below) is a new friend of Ally's from cooking class - she's lovely. As you can see from the bottom photo, everyone was totally stuffed by the end of the evening and the reclining position was the only comfortable position to be in.

Autumn Colours

Thanks to Charles for the idea. It's a cracker. We just happened to have a tree down the road shedding its leaves with all 3 colours. I pasted the leaves to the window with cellotape and that's how I shot them with the sun behind.

Darling Harbour at dusk

How is this for a day job?

I went to a photographic exhibition in Sydney today. This model was part of the Canon stand. Imagine standing in wet paint all day with thousands of people (myself included) snapping away at you. One day she'll be a supermodel and won't have to put up with this stuff.

Walk about town

Train Blur

Some arty, abstract shots - I quite like the top one, it was done through a panning mootion. I'm always striving for crisp, sharp shots so it was quite nice to aim for deliberate blur. The others on the platform probably thought I was some kind of crazy "trainspotter."

St Mary's Cathedral

St Mary’s is the largest church in Australia. It is located in the heart of the City of Sydney where, despite the high rise development of the CBD, its imposing structure and twin spires make it a landmark from every direction. In 2008, St. Mary's Cathedral became the focus of World Youth Day 2008 and was visited by Pope Benedict XVI. It really is a beautiful cathedral.

Amazing how the colours changed in a period of just 5 minutes.

Mighty Iguazu Falls

Here are some videos I never posted from South America. Brings back amazing memories . The power of the water was awe inspiring.

World's tallest shower

I just found this in my old South America photos and thought it was quite fun. I don't think I blogged this at the time. It was taken in Argentina. That's me at the bottom of the waterfall.

I am very chuffed because I have just won 3 photo competitions in a row at local camera clubs. Here are the photos that won...

Early evening stroll around Kiribili and Milson's Point

The fantastic light festival is finally finished and the Opera House is back to normal. Pity, I was getting used to it all multi-coloured with patterns. Hopefully the festival will become an annual event. Its been such a success that I'm pretty sure it will.

Firewater at Vivid Sydney

The light festival culminated this weekend with a "play" featuring a boat emerging from the waters and catching on fire (symbolising one of the old convict ships that really did catch on fire and exploded in the harbour in the 1800's) and hundreds of lanterns in the water. The lanterns were beautiful and the moon rising over the Opera House made for some more good photos.

Bobbin Head

I went to Bobbin Head today while Ally went to her craft school. I decided my photographic theme for the day would be "up close" so spent most of the day with my macro lens and extension tube. In fact, the photo below was the only non close up photo I took.

My first football match

On the way home from Bobbin Head today, I saw a football match being played and decided to take some photos. I've never photoed a football match before and all I can say is its bloody difficult! Anyway, here are some of the results.

Leaps at Vivid Sydney

The lighted walls at Vivid Sydney were good for leaps - we managed to get others to try to.

Light art

Inspired by the light show, we attempted some light art of our own at Macquarries chair using the light from a mobile phone and exposure at 30 seconds. Here are our first few humble attempts. Here is what you can do with a bit of practice! First of all you have to be able to draw which I find difficult even on paper...

Vivid Sydney from Lady Macquarries Chair

After camera club last night, Charles and I popped out to view the Opera House from the other side. The colour was not as vivid as on Circular Quay side and not as photogenic but here it is for a record. The city skyline always looks very impressive from this side.

Vivid Sydney

Sydney is in the midst of a fantastic lights festival which has trasformed the whole Circular Quay area and beyond. Huge multi-coloured lights are projected onto famous buildings like the Opera House and Museum of Contemporary Art and the lights and patterns change every few minutes. It's the biggest lights festival in the southern hemisphere and is seriously impressive - and, of course, great to photograph! Enjoy the colours below but better put on shades first...

Absolutely amazing, isn't it! That's why I love Sydney...

Taronga revisited

I went to Taronga Zoo again with North Sydney Camera Club today. The baby chimp was adorable and I got to take my first decent photos of a Koala (they are normally asleep) and Snow Leopard (usually hiding). I was happy with the photo of the Meerkat looking up - very cute he was. All in all, a good day...
