Beautiful article from Shushan that I helped inspire

Hi there dear Graeme

Here is the article that I’m planning to post out on Tuesday. Please let me know if there is anything that feels uncomfortable for you.

Looking forward to walking and catching up

Love Shushann

He Offered To Do The Dishes..

I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some good hearted, kind, caring men in my life who have supported me in various ways through their acts of service. These include my accountant, my mechanic, various handymen and a couple of male friends. One particular male friend I would describe as a soul brother. I have really appreciated his capacity for presence, insightful conversation, playful humour as well as thoughtful affirmation and encouragement when I’ve needed it.

But I would describe his male superpower as his acts of service. These are caring things he has done for me that have made my life easier.  This soul brother has been a wonderful model of the high masculine for myself as well as other female friends that have loved and appreciated his company and friendship.

Giving and Receiving

My soul brother's presence and modelling has created a valuable template for me in my own healing journey around men. His masculine quality of Giving has taught me step into my feminine quality of Receiving. To do so I've had to learn to trust and open my heart and allow myself to feel my own vulnerability and need. We can spend a lot of our life pretending we don’t need others or anything.  This can often lead to isolation and exhaustion. There is an art in receiving things graciously. Allowing the gift of being given-to, to land in our hearts with that feeling of acceptance and worthiness and without feeling we must give something back. There is something special about the acceptance of being given to that is also an affirmation, a gift to the giver.

There is a certain honour in my soulful brother’s actions that feels old fashioned in the sense that they carry with them a sense of safety, protectiveness and genuine care without any obligation.  Women’s instinctive desire to feel protected by a man hasn’t gone away. It’s a hard-wired instinct and it is difficult to ignore for even the most independent, strong women amongst us.

Safety in Relationships

Safety is one of the key elements that women seek in their relationship with men. Perhaps this is part of our tuning into a collective consciousness where almost 1 in 5 women (18%) and 1 in 20 men (4.7%) have experienced sexual violence (sexual assault and/or threats) since the age of 15.  And globally, one out of three women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.

The trust and safety that has been built in my relationship with this particular male friend has been built on a foundation of small but consistent acts of kindness, care and service over the time of our friendship. These are qualities that I endeavour to cultivate in myself in my relationships. The consistency is key in building trust. Walking our talk when we stand for integrity.

I'll Do The Dishes...

I remember last Christmas I had a lovely gathering of friends over for a shared lunch. Just at a point after lunch where I felt I was flagging, my soul brother got up from the table and quietly said “I’ll do the dishes” in that matter of fact way.  I felt a momentary impulse to say I'd do them later, but chose instead to simply graciously accept. As he started moving back and forth from the table to the kitchen I could feel myself relaxing. I felt an incredible wellness wash over me, that I didn’t have to ask or to carry on doing things on my own. There was help and mostly that it was given without having to ask. That felt such a blessing.

What has been liberating for me in having this soul brother is to engage in our friendship and emotional intimacy without the complication of sex. We haven't tried to label it or change it, but to simply appreciate what is there without any expectation of something more or less. Many of us know what it is like to jump too quickly into a sexual relationship that carries no intimacy.

Are you waiting for the evolved partner?

I know many of us as women can get caught up in our complaints about the many shortcomings of men around us. We are waiting for that evolved male partner or even friend to turn up. But what if we simply started to explore this as our own soul journey of integration rather than waiting. What qualities of the high masculine are you curious about in your life? Would like more of in your life? Are there men around you who are role models for you around this?  And how do these qualities live in you? Or not?

Love and blessings

Aimee

Book editing

  • At end of Aimee's book: "To Graeme, my dearest friend, and soul brother—thank you for always believing in me. Thank you for your tireless advice and final edit of this book. This book would have never happened without you. Thank you for your patience, kindness and trust in me. You are my biggest supporter and without you, I wouldn’t have the courage to write. There is nothing more precious in life then a true friendship. Thank you for giving me the total freedom to be myself. You were heaven-sent and I know we were brought together to turn my dreams into reality. "
  • Aimee: I am so glad you enjoyed editing the book because I feel your care and mastery in every sentence.
  • Aimee: Dearest G, I have started to read through your final edit. I know it is small changes but they are so wonderful and magnificent. I am also listening to it via audio and the book just flows effortlessly. Thank you so much for your light and incredible editing expertise. I feel embarrassing blessed.
  • Anais Nin: What is with you and your final golden touch  I am beaming from ear to ear. It reads beautifully. Like a poem. Just marvellous. Yah! See you Thursday - can't wait!!! xx

Wisdom Trove

  • Aimee: "I took weeks to write a couple of paragraphs. Extraordinary what you've achieved."
  • I’m also a curator for Wisdom Trove where I select and share powerful quotes from various books on spirituality and psychology.
  • Possibianism:  G, this is HUGE! I love when suddenly what I have been trying to articulate is already a theory of knowledge Possibilism. It is perfectly aligned with the trajectory of the metaphors and wider connection to how we view the world, myths and our own sense of interBeing. And what I also love is that it neither rejects or accepts, both stays open to the infinite possibilities.... that resonates very deeply with my own philosophy for living (and I am sure Walt Whitman is smiling too  ) I feel in my bones that this awakening of consciousness is a resting in not knowing, an okayness with questions..and finding new questions to evoke reflection etc... argh I could go on and over forever. This is big stuff G. So excited to be a part of it.
  • G, i am loving these quotes... and the connection to art. they are also quite triggering which is interesting to me. i feel very disconnected from god atm... and they really touch a soft sore point in my soul... I can't really explain it but its almost like reading them makes me happy-sad... like the way a good poem makes you feel, or a rainy day listening to music.

More

  • Aimee:  Biggest joy: deep conversations, big ideas and coffee

Others

  • Sharon:  You guys are the best
  • Gavin just want you to know that when I’m with you guys I feel so content. I feel lucky to call you friends.
  • Gavin: You’re so patient.
  • Gavin & Elna: You’re a great listener
  • You don’t look 50: Allesandra, Aimee

The crystal

Dear Graeme

I also wanted to share that since we met on Friday I have had the most amazing a-ha moment. You told me that self-love or allowing is being gentle with ourselves... gentle exercise.... etc. Well, I have had an incredible shift with my gym exercise. I have stopped listening to hectic music (pushing myself) and instead I am only doing gentle exercise. I am fully present with my body and its SOOOO amazing, its more beneficial then when I was pushing myself. haha what a magical paradox?! When we are gentle...we are more efficient and more effective... it makes me think of the tortoise and the hare. Anyway, just wanted to share and thank you for your words on Friday. Sometimes, we say exactly what the other person needs to hear.

Dear Aimee

Oh that's absolutely wonderful!  What a profound gift it is to be able to treat the body as a living being worthy of love, touch, spacious attention, nourishment and gentleness. It so craves all those things.  And when we treat it that way, it's so much better able to serve us. It becomes our vehicle for awakening.

You've also been instrumental in a big shift in me recently. I often meditate on my back with my legs up, The other day, I was doing that and feeling a strong, uncomfortable contraction in my solar plexus that was blocked and I couldn't get rid of it. I suddenly found myself reaching for your crystal and put it onto my chest. It was deliciously cold and then warmed up quickly. And as it did, the contraction vanished. There was the most beautiful release and then love. Like magic!  I've been using it like that everyday since. It's been so incredibly powerful.  So thank you.  It's by far the most special gift I've ever been given.

    • Graeme! Wow, it's been ages. Thanks for being such a kind soul at school. (St. George's std 3-5) I remember being afraid while keeping watch at a school campfire. Kleinmond if I recall correctly. You sat with me, calmed me down and let me know I was not alone. That if I got scared again, you'd be nearby. I have often thought of that time whenever I've found myself in trouble while growing up. I'm reminded that at that fire, I was taught that all things pass, including fear.  Thanks Graeme

    Life Trove

    • Liz:  Since you gave us the link, I have been snooping around your blog. And all I can say is WOW!!!! It is an absolutely extraordinary piece of work.   Firstly, Your photos are beyond amazing.  I don't know if this sounds odd, but all of your photos have this very positive, uplifting feel about them.  They give a sense of hope, wonder, awe and a general sense that everything is right with the world (sorry for getting a bit deep there).  Anyway, there is definitely a gallery waiting with your name on it!  A few of my favourites are the "Torres Del Paine, Chile" with the sunlight hitting the peaks, the lion sitting so grandly and looking so majestic, the moon setting over the 12 Apostles, the sun setting behind the elephant, the sunset one with the boat in the water (you must have taken it recently)....really I could name so many more.... Your memoirs are so warm, honest and funny.  Its great reading about your family and seeing photos when you were a boy...with hair  (haha).  Your poetry brought me to to tears (particularly the one entitled 'The Child' for a couple different reasons).  I love poetry and used to write heaps as a child and in my teens but I haven't done so for ages.
    • Chrisel:  I lost myself for a couple of hours in your treasure trove...what an incredible collection of memories you have created there. You must be so proud of yourself; seriously to be so in touch with all your most valued people/experiences is very admirable. And the photos! Those South America photos are amaaaaaaazing!  Wow, you really are a master photographer and writer (I still believe that you have missed your calling and should be a writer/photographer!). Thanks also for being so complementary about my family and your time here - I showed them all the entries about them and they loved it!
    • Sean:  Hi Graeme, a blast from the past but I was thinking about my old school friends on the weekend and looked you up. I read your blog and wow, you live life to the full.

    • Hans:  For those of you who were not at the meeting last night, you missed something very special as both Graeme and Brent's presentation were absolutely fantastic...
    • Hans:  Just a short note to say a big thank you for the wonderful presentation you gave us last night. It was by far the finest that we've had this year. I fully appreciate the amount of work that you put into it, which resulted in a telling story of your photographic life so far.  Your images were to say the least, spectacular, and I insist that you enter them in competitions so that all the members can see them.  Once again many thanks for a job very well done.
    • Sue about Hans:  Graeme's Presentation  was THE best ever presentation he had seen.
    • Sandy: Your presentation and quotes have inspired me to get out there and shoot more.
    • Sue: Congratulations! I wanted to email you after your most stunning presentation on Friday night.  Both Jann and Wes enjoyed it thoroughly and haven' stopped talking a about it - we all LOVED it. I thought your presentation was one of the best EVER, with your mix of photos of various subjects along with your collection of 'quotes." You are such an excellent photographer on all genres without being heavily Photoshopped, your intelligence, your enthusiasm for life  also shone thru.  Wes said I most most fortunate to have you as a friend with so much knowledge of photography, of course I heartily agreed.
    • Sue: I tried phoning you on Skype to enthuse verbally - you should be very proud of yourself.  We three thought your presentation was not too fast nor too slow. I heard so many "oohs & aahs" around me with each image that you showed so my judgement was that your presentation was a HUGE success. You SHOULD be very proud of yourself.
    • Sue: Is it too much work for you to burn your presentation  onto a disc so as I can look at it again & again, it truly was sensational?
