Mauritius with the family

Mum treated us to the most amazing holiday in Mauritius to celebrate Mike's 80th birthday.  We stayed at Le Victoria hotel and the food was sumptuous beyond description with 3 restaurants to choose from (Buffet, Italian and Seafood).  Highlights also included a sailing trip and an amazing hike at Le Morne Peninsula.  It was fantastic to spend quality time with everyone.  Poor mum was in a wheelchair because of a very sore back but she was an indomitable champion, refusing to let it spoil the holiday.

Wow, what an amazing time I've had in Cape Town.  Non stop special memories to savour.  Thanks so much to the generosity and hospitality of my family.  It's been so, so wonderful to spend such quality time with family and friends.  And what a gift that Russell that could be here at the same time.

Cape Town and Garden Route

After a wonderful Christmas with the family in December 2009, I remained in Cape Town for another 5 weeks.  I was able to share in Matt's 7th birthday party with a water slide and lots of splashing and fun.  I also went taboggening with the family which was a great adrenaline rush, especially when I discovered that Sam has no fear of speed and sees no need to apply the brake on corners!

Other family outings included a trip up Signal Hill to see the new World Cup  football stadium, a picnic at  Llandadno Beach and a day out with mum and the kids at the Waterfront and Oceanarium.  We also did a a lovely Constantia Nek walk as well as walks at Silvermine.

I also got to see Ivor and I caught up with the people from the Hardcore Hiking club at a braai with James and Fiona.  We also went to Scarborough for the day to see Sean.

In addition to family activities, I took many photos in and around Cape Town at places like Table MountainPaarl, the Muizenberg to Kalk Bay walk, KirstenboschFranschhoekHout Bay and Chapman's PeakCape PointCamps BayBoulders Beach and the World of Birds.

During the last part of my holiday, I did the Garden Route including Knysna, Nature's Valley, Oudshoorn and Robberg (in Plett). It was good to see this beautiful part of the world again. As usual, a highlight for me was the gorgeous Storm's River National Park where I did the first day of the Otter Trail. I love the way the ocean pounds the coast along this park's rocky shoreline and the sensation of walking across the suspension bridge.

In Cape Town, I did my first official photoshoot which produced some nice portraits of Meggan's children.  It was my first paying "gig"   I got a great shirt out of the deal!

Houseboating in Hawkesbury River

We just spent an idyllic 3 days houseboating with Doug and Claudia, Linda and Dan. Amazing food, beautiful scenery and lots of time to chill out. It was a great get away.

Swimming off the boat. The water was suprisingly warm. There were some jellyfish to avoid but all part of the fun.

As with all Dough and Claudia outings, the food was splendid and we did little but eat. Each couple was responsible for a day. Ally excelled with her Yoghurt and Cumin Lamb and prawns wrapped in pancetta ham on the barbie. Went down like a house on fire.

What would a boat trip be without a leap from the boat.

On our final night, we had a Bond night were we dressed up in "costumes" and played poker. Guess who cleaned up? Yes, Ally!! She's quite the poker player and spent the evening accumulating everyone's chips.

Ally and me in our Bond outfits. Can you see my bow tie?

And here is the whole group. We had an enormous boat, equipped for ten people, so were spoiled with lots of space.

Relaxing on the beaches along the river.

We all did a fair amount of fishing. But only Dan caught any fish - 7 of the blighters!! What we were all doing wrong is anyone's guess.

These crabs only have one claw each. Who needs two hands when one will do.

All her fish catching made Dan very popular with the local pelican.

Beautiful it was.

Doug trying hard.

Beautiful sunsets.

Ally's new T-shirt - a present from the Fletchers.

And my boogey board - a Xmas present from Ally. Perfect colour and message for Bondi Beach!

Driving the boat was a lot of fun. Had to be particularly careful aiming through the bridges.

A very cheeky jump in the lake by Dan. Needless to say, she was a lot of fun...
